How to Clean a Front-Loading Washing Machine
High-efficiency front-loading washing machines use 1/3 to 2/3 less water than standard washing machines, depending on the model, and can handle large loads with ease, making them a good choice for busy families. The machines wash clothing more gently than top-loaders and come with a plethora of wash options. Possibly their one drawback is a propensity to collect odors. The rubber door gasket is probably the main culprit, because it has deep folds that never dry out completely and may even trap small laundry items, such as socks. Put your hand in the gasket frequently to check for lost items that may turn moldy if left there.
Instructions:
1 Mix 1 part chlorine bleach with 3 parts water in a spray bottle. Spray the inside of the washing machine, including the rubber gasket. Spray in between the folds thoroughly. Wipe down the entire surface with a damp sponge or microfiber cloth.
2 Put chlorine bleach in the bleach distributor, but do not add detergent. Run the machine on a normal cycle, using hot water. Leave the door open overnight to allow the washing machine to air out.
3 Use only detergent labeled with the high efficiency symbol in your washing machine. Regular detergent produces too many suds and may leave a sludgy residue that will create odors.
